Another busy week has whizzed by with lots of learning including the blend 'wh' for 'whizz'! We also did the letter 'Pp' in handwriting on Friday and practised lots of words beginning with 'p'. We thought it would be fun to combine our maths work on geometrical shapes with the letter 'p' and made a pig out of circles, ovals, and triangles. Take a look at our individual work on our own pages.
We are lucky at Victory Primary School to be able to sample a different fruit everyday. This week we had mandarins and because we are learning about shapes, we looked at the individual segments in a mandarin. We discovered they looked like 'moons' and learned that this shape is a crescent. We also practiced our counting by lining all the segments up. The best bit was learning about subtraction when we got to eat them one by one!
Currently in Phys Ed we are getting ready for the cross country race coming up in Week 5. For those families interested, Athletics Nelson is holding a series of four races for primary students every Saturday at 3pm. The first two have already been but there is still one at Rabbit Island this week, and again the following Saturday at Miyazu Gardens. It's free and you just need to turn up a little earlier to put your name beside a number on the day. This is a fun and free way to encourage your child into running and getting muddy! Check out the website for more information.

Next week we are learning more about running and will be practising our starts as well as continuing with our big ball skills.
We will be learning the letters 'x' and 'z' and doing 'Rr' for handwriting.
We will be learning the nursery rhyme 'Baa, Baa, Black Sheep'.
In Maths we will be doing some more work on shapes and recalling some earlier skills of sorting them.
We will also be practising our teen numbers and working on some groups to ten.
Have a good week everybody.
