Ronald McDonald Visits Victory

Friday before last we had a visit from a rather interesting clown!

Ronald MacDonald came to talk to us about road safety. He was very tall with huge red shoes! He lost his red and white sock stripey sock and had come to Victory Primary School to look for it. We learned all about being sensible on the footpath, stopping and taking care by sneaky driveways, and to Stop, Look, and Listen before we cross the road.

We learned that if we can, it's best to cross at a pedestrian crossing but you still have to be careful as cars don't always stop! Thanks Ronald.

The term is zooming by and the date of our movie premiere is coming up fast. Do take the time to fill in the form if you are planning on attending. It will help us estimate numbers for each sitting.

We have a new friend in Room 5. Duh Duh started on Friday and is already fitting in very well. We can see you are a big school girl now Duh Duh! Welcome to you and your family.

Have a happy and safe week everybody!

Out and About

We have been so busy with all our trips lately. The last trip out was to the Nelson Provincial Museum on Tuesday to see Whaea Nicky and all her hats. We learned a lot about hats with brims and peaks, hats with bells, fire fighter hats, every hat you could imagine!

We got to try some on and even drew our own.

We learned a fun dance called the Salsa that Carmen Miranda danced with fruit on her hat, and we heard a story about a man whose hats were stolen by some monkeys! He sold hats for a living and kept them all on his head and the monkeys stole them while he was sleeping. Lucky he got them back! Check out Bailey pretending to be the man with the hats.

We really had a lot of fun. Thanks Whaea Nicky!

This week Rhys read a book called, "A Puzzle for Scruffy".

We thought it would be a good idea for him to make a puzzle for Room 5. So he did. Matariki, May May, Bailey, and Anup helped him and then we all gave the puzzle a go. It was so good we even shared it at our Syndicate Assembly and all the five year olds had a turn.

We had to go through the hoop....

Over the blocks.....

Up the see-saw.... and down the see-saw.

We had a lot of fun. A big thanks to our big helpers from Room 11, Reuben, Jade, Ben, and Steven.

We also made a book called "A Puzzle for Room 5". Come and look for it in our library.

Week 4, Term 3

Lately our time has been full up with lots of work on our inquiry into 'Our Community'. We have been visiting places in our community and greater community with our trip to the new Oral Health Clinic, the Suter Art Gallery and of course, Trafalgar Park! Thanks to all our helpers for these trips, we really appreciate your help. Check back later this week for some photos!

We also have many new faces in Room 5 these days. Welcome to Anup, Klara, and soon to start, Duh Duh. We are loving having you in the class already Anup and Klara, and look forward to you starting Duh Duh. While we welcome our new friends, we have said, "See you at lunchtimes!" to some old friends. Cem Pi, Lexus, and Jack have all moved on into Room 4 and we know they are having a great time learning all the things 'almost-6-year-olds' learn! We miss you and love your visits, friends.

Next week we are looking forward to continuing our trips with a journey to the museum in town. This is happening on Tuesday and we look forward to you joining us if you are planning to.

Week 1 Term 3

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We got straight into it this week with some exciting things happening in Room 5. We read a book about bubbles so thought we would have a go at making some bubbles ourselves. We were lucky enough to borrow Room 1's special bubble maker and made some stunning massive bubbles!

We also had a visit from Janice Oliver who taught us some rugby skills. We started small with running tips and had tricky game to learn. Room 5 did such great listening and watching that we all learned it very quickly and we had great time. Thanks Janice!

We also had some sad news at the very beginning of the week. Kap Cin and his family have moved to Australia so we had to say a hurried good bye to him on Monday. We will miss you Kap Cin and we hope you keep in touch. It is with sadness we say goodbye to you and your lovely family.

As we loose students in Room 5 we also gain new ones. Be sure to say hello to our new friends May May, Wiremu, and Bailey.

We had some other changes in Room 5 over the holidays. Our tadpoles underwent some big changes and are now all frogs! We now have the problem of their living arrangements. We did consider releasing them into the creek but we couldn't get down to the water. What else could we do? This took a lot of thinking......

They have become very 'hoppy' and jump out of their little bowl at every opportunity. In the end, Miss Taylor took them home to make a special home for them. This is all set up now and they will be back in class soon.

They look very happy in their new home.
