Folk Dancing
What a perfect spring day for a bit of folk dancing in the park. The blossoms were blooming, the birds were singing, and so were we. We danced the Jibberee, The Pigeon Dance, The Birdie Dance, and many more. We skipped, we hopped, we jumped, and we clapped. But most of all, we had fun! Thank you to all our whanau for coming to watch. You were a great audience. Can't wait to do it again next year!

Busy working for our teddy bears
We have been very busy lately providing some comforts for our teddy bears. We decided they needed a house each to live in and proceeded to make them a comfortable home that had a roof, a chimney for their fires, windows, and a door that opens. Here are some examples.
We have been learning about time lately also and have been talking about times of the day and what we do at those times. We know we sleep at night and do fun things like school and playing during the day. We thought our teddy bears would need to sleep in their houses at night and might need a blanket each to keep them warm. We made them a blanket with pretty mathematical patterns on it. We had to practice the patterns first. Tomorrow we are going to sew the edges to make it neat.
We are going on our picnic with our bears next Friday the 14th of September, at 11am. Remember to sign the permission slip for your child so they can come. Hope to see you there, it will be fun!

Making Teddies
Lately we have been very busy designing and making teddies as part of our Fabric Art and Technology education. We had to draw our patterns, pin them to fabric, cut them out, sew them up (Mrs Richardson did that bit) and stuff them full of stuffing to make them cuddly. We are now at the dying stage which gives them colour and personality.
During reading time we have lots of tasks to choose from. We can read from our library, our browsing boxes, our big books, and around the room. There are lots of other reading activities to choose from too. We like to work together to practice our letters and alphabet and our words.
We love practicing our reading and getting better and better! What clever kids!

V is for Victory and Volcano!
This week we were learning the letter V and we thought about the volcano that has been on the news lately. The volcano at Mount Tongariro has been erupting and so we made a mini version ourselves. We used playdough to make the mountain, then put some baking soda and dye powder (red to look like lava) in hole in the middle. Then we carefully poured vinegar into the volcano and Whoosh! the lava spilled out over the top of the mountain. You can also do this at home with sand or mud instead of playdough.

Nelson Intermediate Buddies
We really enjoy our new buddies from Nelson Intermediate. They come and spend some time reading with us and other activities most Friday mornings. Last Friday they read us a story and then we did a maths activity with them. We get to show them how brainy we are at maths.
Last Friday we also said goodbye to Mr Brown for a while as he has gone to work in Wellington for the rest of the year. He came and asked us if we would like some of his teddies to live in Ako Tahi with us. Of course we said yes!
Keep an eye out for some more teddies in Ako Tahi. We are planning something exciting! What this space!
