Making Teddies

Lately we have been very busy designing and making teddies as part of our Fabric Art and Technology education. We had to draw our patterns, pin them to fabric, cut them out, sew them up (Mrs Richardson did that bit) and stuff them full of stuffing to make them cuddly. We are now at the dying stage which gives them colour and personality.

During reading time we have lots of tasks to choose from. We can read from our library, our browsing boxes, our big books, and around the room. There are lots of other reading activities to choose from too. We like to work together to practice our letters and alphabet and our words.

We love practicing our reading and getting better and better! What clever kids!

V is for Victory and Volcano!

This week we were learning the letter V and we thought about the volcano that has been on the news lately. The volcano at Mount Tongariro has been erupting and so we made a mini version ourselves. We used playdough to make the mountain, then put some baking soda and dye powder (red to look like lava) in hole in the middle. Then we carefully poured vinegar into the volcano and Whoosh! the lava spilled out over the top of the mountain. You can also do this at home with sand or mud instead of playdough.

Nelson Intermediate Buddies

We really enjoy our new buddies from Nelson Intermediate. They come and spend some time reading with us and other activities most Friday mornings. Last Friday they read us a story and then we did a maths activity with them. We get to show them how brainy we are at maths.

Last Friday we also said goodbye to Mr Brown for a while as he has gone to work in Wellington for the rest of the year. He came and asked us if we would like some of his teddies to live in Ako Tahi with us. Of course we said yes!

Keep an eye out for some more teddies in Ako Tahi. We are planning something exciting! What this space!
