This week we talked about our families and who was in them. We drew pencil drawings of our houses and the people who lived there with us. Then we used bold shouting crayon to colour them in and put dye on top. They look fantastic! Come and see for yourself on the Room 5 wall.
Congratulations to Sarah who was our Pupil of the Week this week. Sarah has zoomed ahead in her reading. Well done, Sarah. We are proud of you.

Week 7, Term 1
Another busy week has whizzed by. We had a special day on Friday. We celebrated World Harmony Day with the World Harmony Runners visiting our school. The World Harmony Run is a run that has gone all around the world with different people getting together and running for peace and harmony. They carry a torch with them that they try to keep alight all the time to symbolise peace and hope. To celebrate, we could wear our national costume, or clothes that we would wear in different countries. Klara and her sister dressed in their national costume from Germany. Their mum made their hats. We all thought they were really cool.
The whole school gathered in the hall and sang songs for peace. Can you see all the different country flags that were hanging up?
In our classroom lately we have been learning about living things and how they grow and thrive. We have some plants to take care of and we have had a caterpillar living on one of the plants. It is a swan plant. We had a mystery to solve this week as our caterpillar disappeared! We couldn't find it anywhere! We all had a think and came up with some ideas about where it might have gone. We wrote them in our topic book. We were all a bit sad and worried. Then Anup found the caterpillar on the puzzle shelf! Hooray! We put it back on the swan plant because we thought it might be hungry.
On Saturday Mrs Richardson came to school and saw it starting to build a cocoon.
Lucky she got to take a photo so we could see. Now it is a chrysalis.
How exciting! We can't wait to see it turn into a butterfly. We wondered how long it will take to change. Come and read what we thought in the topic book.
Have a happy and safe week everyone.

Week 6, Term 1
This week we had a visit from Wiremu's mum Paula. She brought in some very special little friends with her. Their dog has had puppies and Paula brought in two to show us. We got to hold the puppies, stroke their soft fur and listen to their little squeaky sounds as they talked to each other. We talked about how Paula and the mummy are looking after them. The mother fed them milk at first but now Paula feeds them special healthy dog food mixed with warm water to make it soft and easy for them to eat. They need to be kept warm and dry and need plenty of sleep so we only held them for a little while then she took them back home for a rest. We all agreed little puppies need very similar things to little humans!
After the puppies had gone home, SiuMelie had a good idea. She thought we could write some stories about the puppies and make a book with them. We all thought about what we could write and put the stories in with some photos. Come in and read our book sometime. We are really proud of it. Paula is going to bring the puppies back when they are a little older so we can see how much they have grown. We will add more to our stories then. Thank you, Paula. We are so happy to have met your puppies.
We had the Tryathlon on Friday. The weather was great and we got to give everything a 'try'! Thank you for all the parents who came to support their tamariki and who had a go at the activities. Thank you also to Nicky, Klara's mum, who took photographs of us trying our best. Well done to everyone in Room 5 who were super strong athletes and really tried hard.
Congratulations to Ryan this week for receiving Pupil of the Week. Ryan has a fantastic attitude towards learning always does the right thing in class. He is an excellent example for the rest of the class and we are all proud of him. Well done, Ryan.
Next week we have a Duffy Book Assembly on Wednesday morning. These are interesting and fun and we are looking forward to seeing what it will be like. We will also receive our Duffy Books. Yay!
Have a happy and safe week everyone.
