Week 11, Term 2

This was our last week of term and what a busy week it has been! We have been doing lots of artwork in preparation for our Each Peach Pear Plum project, lots of reading and counting, and of course, thinking thinking, thinking. The weather has been frosty and we have had some fun times around the playground feeling the crunch of frost under our feet. Cold can be fun after all.

Our tadpoles are growing day by day and we have been noting their progress. They now have back legs and their tails are changing shape a little bit. We look forward to seeing what they look like when we get back from the holidays. Luckily the teachers will be going into the classroom the holidays so we will feed them and look after them. There is a funny little game here http://www.boowakwala.com/tadpoles/tadpoles-frogs.html if you want to get a sneak preview of what they will look like when all the changes are complete!

This week we welcome May May to our class. May May is new to Victory Primary School but has already been to school before so knows just what to do on the mat and during learning times. We are looking forward to getting to know you May May.

Congratulations to Jesse for receiving Pupil of the Week this week. Jesse, you are taking school life seriously and we love how you love to learn. Well done, Jesse.

Have a happy and safe holiday everyone and we look forward to hearing about all your adventures when we start again on the 1st of August.

Week 10, Term 2

Congratulations to Cem Pi this week for receiving Pupil of the Week. Cem Pi always works so hard and loves learning new things. We love having you in the class Cem Pi. Well done.

We have been working on our inquiry into Nursery Rhymes. We have been reading the book by Alan Ahlberg called "Each Peach Pear Plum". It has lots of different nursery rhymes and fairy stories all mixed up into one story. We will be doing a lot of work with this book towards an ICT project next term. Keep a look out for some stunning work!

This week in ICT we went to a site that helped us with our Te Reo Maori. We are getting ready for Maori Language week next week and want to learn more and more. Whaea Mahina in Ruma Iwa or Kie kie introduced it to us in assembly last week. Thanks Mahi! At this site http://www.kmk.maori.nz/ we can make a book in Te Reo using the computer to guide us. There is English as well to help us as we learn. Why not have a go at home?

Week 9, Term 2

We have had some new students to Victory visiting our class lately and this week we welcomed Jesse into Room 5. He has already settled in really well and is making friends fast. Be sure to say hello if you see him around. Welcome Jesse!

This Thursday we were excited to hear about a new building being moved onto our school grounds. We were able to go out and watch the procedure which we all found very interesting. There was a big crane, a huge truck and the building was balanced on a special trailer.

To make matters even more exciting, the truck got a bit stuck in some soft mud and there was lots of 'tooing and froing' as it tried to get through. In the end, it had to find another solution to the problem. Lucky the drivers had could problem solving skills! We went back to the classroom with lots of ideas for our story for the day and with a lot to think about for maths. For instance, how will the driver know how heavy the building was? And how high will the crane have to go to lift it properly? Questions, questions......

Congratulations to Lexus for receiving Pupil of the Week this week. Lexus is always such a helpful member of our class. You are always contributing and thinking of others. Well done, Lexus!
